2013 Distinguished Communicator Named

Jeni Britton Bauer of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams is the 2013 Distinguished Communicator of the Year.

At a festive gala on May 22 at The Athletic Club of Columbus, IABC/Columbus celebrated our area’s best communicators and Jeni Britton Bauer, founder/owner of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. We honored Jeni as our 2013 Distinguished Communicator of the Year and presented our 2013 Bronze Quill Awards.

Building a Strong Brand Through Building a Community
The gala theme was Building a Strong Brand Through Building a Community. It honored Jeni’s contributions to the central Ohio community through her work as an advocate of Columbus entrepreneurship and in helping local business owners grow their businesses to a national level as she has done with her own. Jeni launched her career in Columbus’ North Market in 1996 and has built the business into a brand that is recognizable throughout the U.S. and stands for quality and ingenuity.

“Jeni was honored because of her leadership in Columbus for more than 15 years and for being someone who, through her commitment to supporting the local community, has put central Ohio on the map,” said IABC/Columbus President Amy Gillespie. To learn more about Jeni’s career, read her bio.

In addition to accepting the Distinguished Communicator award, Jeni was the keynote speaker. Other speakers at the event included:

  • Warren Taylor, co-owner and dairy nerd of Snowville Creamery;
  • John Angelo, executive director of the Short North Alliance;
  • Dave Wible, former executive director of the North Market;
  • John Lowe, CEO of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.

The gala also featured drinks and dinner. There was also a raffle with proceeds directed to a charity chosen by Jeni: Local Matters. Attendees could choose to add a donation to Local Matters when purchasing their gala tickets.

Honoring central Ohio’s best communicators
In addition to recognizing Jeni, the event honored IABC/Columbus’ 2013 Bronze Quill Award winners. These professionals set the standard for communications excellence in central Ohio and beyond. Their work represents the best of communications from all sectors: business, education, freelance, government, health care and non-profit organizations.
